Hosting Uptime
Hosting uptime means how much time a websites hosting is accessible via the internet, calculated in percentage. Many hosting companies state that their server uptime is 99.9%, but they have several reasons why a server is in off line status, like server restarts and planned (or unplanned) maintenance of the server. The bigger hosting companies are seriously trying to keep this percentage as a respect for their clients.
There are others who would keep this, but they have older or badly maintenanced infrastructure systems, so they can’t keep it at this percentage level and their clients might leave disappointed (I recently got through on a similar case and moved to another company, which I tested first).
A 99% or a 99.9% server uptime is often refers only to a server being powered on and doesn’t refer to a network downtime. Real network downtime can be potentially larger than the percentage that the hosting provider guaranteed.
Many providers are keeping their promise toward their clients which correspond with their own service level agreement (SLA). These agreements sometimes include refunds or reduced costs for their clients if the server’s performance goals are not met.
