To choose a hosting company first you have to know what you want it for: for your website only or more. If you know what purpose your website will have, you can start to approximate how big it will be when you create it and how big it will grow in the first year. Knowing these, you know how much space you need. So you can start analyzing the hosting company offers.

Web hosting companies are always offering the spaces in different packages. Keep in mind that not always the cheapest or the most expensive is the best. Just read the offers and be sure you understand it. If you don’t understand some point of the offers just ask them.

Starting packages can cost 5-50$ per month. A small personal website with approx. 15-30 pages can have 2-5 MB in full size. So a basic package can be enough for a personal and slow growing website.
You may have a discount if you pay the hosting fee yearly or in every 6 months.

Thinking in longer term, also be sure you are familiar with their extension packages (what they offer after you purchased the first package) and if they offer periodically backup or manual backup options (this can be turn important in some points). Don’t forget to sign a contract with them including all the offer items. The contracts are usually made for a non fixed time length so you can move to another company at any time if you are not satisfied with the one you choose.

Also important:

Speed and reliability of the servers and hardware (preferably a T3 or higher)

Effective bandwidth management (ask for unlimited bandwidth)

Backup system don’t cost you in plus

Having backup power in case of power failure

Uptime 99.9 %

Compatibility of the server programs with your website programs

To get FTP access to the server and Control Panel access

30 day money back guarantee

To offer quality support service

This is a question which should be asked before making your website. It needs decided in which category takes part of:

personal page

blog

interactive art work

informational website

portal website

product presentation

online shop

Personal pages are like business cards about a person, or group of persons. It has to be visually simple, showing any important info about that person or group. Because it’s a personal page, it could contain personal info, photo, video, sound, work in pdf or other, so it necessarily needs to include some copyright elements in addition, not just a simple copyright text at the bottom of the page. It’s also need a “terms and conditions” page which explains how personal the content of the website is and in what condition these contents can be or may be used. Also needs a “privacy policy” page which means how the website owner or administrator is using the information of the visitors when they visiting the website.

There is a new copyright possibility exist out there, called Creative Commons. First you choose what type of copyright you need or want for your page, then add a simple banner or link toward that page. They have involved multiple country copyright, they working together with these countries authorities to extend the copyrights even more.

Blogs are kind of personal pages also, they can be used to write periodically something new or informational. There are blog engines exist on the web. They are relatively simple to use, to make it work, to change (personalize) the look. More people uses blogs to write the daily happenings about her/himself, its like a personal diary in electronic format. Blogs are very widely used around the world, there even exists search engines for only blogs: Technorati, Google.

For interactive art work a program called Macromedia Flash is often used. There are other computer programs exist for these kind of art works, but the Flash is the most known. Also it is combined with other Macromedia products to achieve a very good and stunning result. They can be animations without a useful side in the websites point of view, but after watching them you definitely remain with a good feeling experience. These can be parts of websites like a weird navigation, or weird appearance of a website page. They can contain hidden elements, hard to find parts, or slowly appearing art lines or shapes, similar like an animation. They also can be real websites with an interesting new form of appearance, new kind of menu navigation, which gets your interest immediately, but unfortunately with a slow loading time and hard-to-find elements.
They are not really passing any website-usability-award, but they are surely interesting.

Informational websites are simply presentations of something like a mountain, old house, museum, rare trees, vacation places, etc. They contain descriptions, videos, sounds and/or photos of that object or place. They are simply informational websites.

Portal website can be a website of a country, city, a place; it can be addressed for only women, men, or children. It can be about animals, television, space or interesting part of life or earth. Basically it can be about almost anything. A portal website is a complex informational website, with lots of useful things on their pages, like different news, weather cast, info about a city, forum for talks, chat, photo gallery, yellow pages of a city, maps, vacation routes and many others. It can be a place where you go almost daily to find out the new things, trends or what is happening around you.

A product presentations website can be a presentation of a company’s products, info and photo about them. It can contain presentation animations, videos, sounds of a specific product.
It can be a complex website, with categorized products and pages about the company, what they offer, or what they do, how their products are used, why they are good, who runs the company, contact maps, contact info, testimonials about the products or the company and many more.

The online shop is like a product presentation website, but in addition you can buy the products. It’s like a virtual version of a real shop, but you also can see the new offers, new products, best selling products and many more, which you not always can in a real shop, or you don’t pay much attention to it.

Before creating a website it needs to decide who will come and visit that site. Who you want to come and visit the website you create. Do you have valuable information to give to your visitors?

There are more categories in which the visitors can be categorized:

visitors age

visitors interests

returning visitors

visitors gender

and others…

Age:
You have to decide if your website is meant for kids, teenagers, middle age people, parents, old people, between the age of 6 - 13, or 13 -18, or 18 - 30, 30 - 60, 60 + or the combination of them.

If your business is about selling shoes for kids (let’s say for age of 6-13), it’s obvious that your website’s content or structure or look have to be in their level. It can happen that they are able to visit your website even if they are too young for internet and can decide what shoe they want. Of course most of the time the parents are visiting these websites and they are the ones who buying the product, so the age of the visitor target of your website is approx. 1-13 and 30-60. It would be recommended to have some kid-related graphics, easy-to-navigate structure, but at the same time the look has to give the feeling of security, seriousness and professionalism for the parents (they are the one who buying the shoe for the kid).

The interest:
Decide what you want to offer to your visitors: informational content, or just share your blog articles with others, or you want that the visitors be able to see the info about your products, or you even want them to buy it?

Answer for yourself on the following questions: What are the advantage to them to come to your website? the price of your products? the information that they can use? some political news from which they can find out the newest changes in politics, in government, music, movies, star world or about everything which happens locally in your country or city?

Returning visitors:
Returning visitors come back to your website because they saw or read something that motivated them to come back. Something interesting.

Again, answer on these: What would be the visitors interest to come back later to your website?
You have to provide important, interesting catchy content to your website.

If your website is a portal, you would expect that your visitors come back to read the hot news, general news, horoscope, and many other content which are changing periodically (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly). This kind of website can generate lots of visitors so you need a well-structured, easy-to-access, fast load website. You have to keep their interest all the time.

Gender:
Let’s say if you create a website for only womans, your target is clear, but you have to make sure you chosen the right look for the website so the womans can have the feeling while visiting it, that it is really made for them, they have to feel comfortable there. They have to feel that it is only for them, if that is what you want as purpose.

If you create a website for men, and use only photos with men and none about women, your visitors might feel that it is a website only or mostly for gay people.

You have to put yourself in the place of your targeted visitors and think about what would they want to see or how they would feel when visiting your website. The point of view is important.

what visual structure the website will have

where will the website be hosted

what design line the website will have to have

it will be a simple html based website, or will have a standalone administration area where you can manage your website’s content or structure

2. What will be your website’s name, which will determinate the domain name of the site

the business name to choose

the domain name to choose

the domain name extension to choose

3. A hosting space for the website

depending of the website structure: how much space you need at the beginning or you will need in the future (thinking on expanding the website in longer term). If it needs a bigger space, then its better to have a dedicated box with lots of space and independency

what programs are already installed on the server of the hosting space

4. The design of the website’s look

what will be the theme of the website

what colors are better to use related to the business type and/or the visitors type

what kind of expressive images better to use (photos, 2d, 3d, manually created images)

5. The creation of the website pages using basic or complex html

the structure of the html page or pages and the related files (images, css, html)

arrange them into a hierarchical structure

use repeatable page structure for easier build or manage

use of the non visible but important elements inside the html code, which are helpful for the search engines and other common search programs

6. Valuable and targeted content for the website pages

decide what content the website will have

group the content in different categories

if need, use subdomains instead of categories

decide which categories or pages will have higher importance and be sure the visitors see them first, so they will easily find all the website content beginning with the most important content

Dedicated server hosting means that a user gets full control over his own webserver (root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows). The user normally does not own the server, he just renting it.

Other type of dedicated hosting is self-managed or in another name unmanaged dedicated hosting. This normally is not expensive. The provider’s client has full administrative access to the server computer, which means that the client is fully responsible for his dedicated server’s full security and management.

These dedicated servers have their own IP. Whoever rents this server can give reseller web host, he can split it into more virtual dedicated server.

Dedicated web servers are used for various reasons. Even game hosts are using it for their own game server, so they don’t have to share it with others or don’t have to use a virtual dedicated server to share the same server computer’s resources: CPU, RAM memory or disk space, which can reduce the server’s performance.

Shared web hosting service means that more website is hosted on the same server using the same server resources: same CPU, same RAM memory, same disk space. There can be 2 to 1000 websites on the same server. Or even more if the server has a huge amount of available resources.

Shared web hosting services can even be offered by resellers who are renting a specific amount of webspace from a server.

The advantage of shared web hosting is the low price. If a website is hosted on shared web hosting and it has many visitors, or the website owners working on their own website development - meaning they are using it very often - it can slow down the access to their web content, having a disadvantage in contrast to the dedicated server users.

These services are usually using a web-based control panel such as cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk, InterWorx, H-Sphere. Other companies have developed their own.

Shared hosting providers are usually responsible for managing the servers, installing new server softwares or updating them, for security updates and technical support for the users.

Shared web hosting can be created in two ways: name-based and IP-based.
Although some of them allow a mix of these two.

Name based hosting:
This feature also called shared IP hosting, where the virtual hosts are hosting multiple host names on a single server with a single IP address.

IP based hosting
The IP based hosting, also called dedicated IP hosting, the webserver is configured in a way that every website hosted on it has a different IP address. A user connects to this web server over an IP address and the server determines which website to show. The main reason to use this IP based hosting is that the clients can use their own SSL certificate instead of a shared one.

It is website desing or website design?

People often makes the mistake to misswrite this word. Either because they are in hurry, or they just don’t know how exactly this word is spelled. The correct is: website design with “gn” at the end and not website desing.

Design, usually is used related to the applied arts, engineering, architecture, or creative endeavors.
It is used both as a noun and a verb. As a verb it refers to the process of creating and developing a plan for a product, for a component, for a system or for a structure. As a noun “a design” is used as a final plan (proposal, drawing, model) or the result of that plan implementation (the produced object, process result). Nowadays, it is also used for processes (design products) and got a new meaning: “process design”.

But in any cases being used, the right spelling is still: design instead of desing.

A little dictionary (from answers.com):
The word design is derived from the word “de” and “sign”.

de·sign
v. de·signed, de·sign·ing, de·signs
v.tr.

a. To conceive or fashion in the mind; invent: design a good excuse for not attending the conference.
b. To formulate a plan for; devise: designed a marketing strategy for the new product.

To plan out in systematic, usually graphic form: design a building; design a computer program.

To create or contrive for a particular purpose or effect: a game designed to appeal to all ages.

To have as a goal or purpose; intend.

To create or execute in an artistic or highly skilled manner.

v.intr.

To make or execute plans.

To have a goal or purpose in mind.

To create designs.

n.

a. A drawing or sketch.
b. A graphic representation, especially a detailed plan for construction or manufacture.

The purposeful or inventive arrangement of parts or details: the aerodynamic design of an automobile; furniture of simple but elegant design.

The art or practice of designing or making designs.

Something designed, especially a decorative or an artistic work.

An ornamental pattern. See Synonyms at figure.

A basic scheme or pattern that affects and controls function or development: the overall design of an epic poem.

A plan; a project. See Synonyms at plan.

a. A reasoned purpose; an intent: It was her design to set up practice on her own as soon as she was qualified.
b. Deliberate intention: He became a photographer more by accident than by design.

A secretive plot or scheme. Often used in the plural: He has designs on my job.

So, now you know that in the future if you want to search any “design” related term its better to know that is not desing, it is spelled as design. In plural is desigs instead of desings.

However most of the major search engines already seen this problem and they offer the right words when you search a wrong spelled word(s). For example if you search for web desing they will offer web design and you just have to click on it to correct your search keywords.

Other corrections:
graphic desing -> graphic design
interior desing -> interior design
free desing -> free design
home desing -> home design
